Lauren Bacall in To Have and Have Not

Regarded by some as a remake of Casablanca, To Have and Have Not is notable for many reasons, not least for featuring the screen debut of Lauren Bacall.

Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall began an off-screen relationship during production and married in 1945, after the film’s release.

Lauren Bacall’s screen test was the seduction and “whistle” scene. This scene wasn’t originally intended for the film, but it was so good the producers had to include it.
